50 gm (0.15 mol) of 6-ethoxy-2-methylthio-5-nitro-4-(1-oxido-thiomorpholino)-pyrimidine together with 64.8 gm (0.15 mol) of piperazine, were dissolved in 150 ml of dimethyl sulfoxide and the solution was stirred for 6 hours at room temperature. Then, the reaction mixture was poured into ice-water, the crystals formed thereby were suction-filtered off, and the filter cake was washed with water and recrystallized from ethanol. Yield: 39.3 gm (70.7% of theory); m.p. 222°-223°C.
