Procedure
Acylation of 13.1 g. (0.075 mol.) of 2-n-butylbenzofuran with 15.4 g. (0.075 mol.) of 4-chloro-2-methoxybenzoic acid chloride, prepared from 4-chloro-2-methoxybenzoic acid and thionyl chloride as previously described, according to the procedure of Example 10 gave 2-n-butyl-3-(4'-chloro-2'-methoxybenzoyl)benzofuran. Demethylation as previously described gave 2-n-butyl-3-(4'-chloro-2'-hydroxybenzoyl)benzofuran.
