Reaction Steps

2 g of (S)-2-(2-naphthylsulfonylamino)propionic acid are added to 50 ml of anhydrous benzene, and 2.04 ml of thionyl chloride are added thereto. The mixture is stirred at 40° to 50° C for 18 hours. The reaction mixture is condensed to dryness under reduced pressure, and the residue is recystallized from a mixture of benzene and n-hexane. 1.6 g of (S)-2-(2-naphthylsulfonylamino)propionyl chloride are obtained.
