A methylene chloride solution of 5.0 g (0.0235 m) 2-mercapto-6-nitrobenzothiazole, 5.2 g (0.0235 m) α-bromophenylacetic acid and 5.0 g (0.05 m) triethylamine is heated to gentle reflux overnight. The solution is washed twice with a dilute hydrochloric acid solution and once with water. The solution is dried over anhydrous MgSO4 and then concentrated. The residue is recrystallized once from benzene and then from acetonitrile. 1.5 g (18% yield) of title compound, having a melting point of 152°-5° C., is obtained.
