Procedure

A solution of 0.10 g (0.245 mmol) of 3-isopropoxy-5-tert -butoxycarbonyl-6,7-dihydro-4H-thieno[3,2-c]pyridine-2-carboxylic acid (1H-tetrazol-5-yl) amide (from Example 7) in 15 mL of 5% (w/w) hydrogen chloride in methanol was stirred at 24° C. for 3 days. The reaction solvent was removed by evaporation under reduced pressure to afford an oil. The oil was crystallized from 10 mL of ethyl acetate/diethyl ether (1:1 v/v) to afford 0.089 g of 3-isopropoxy-6,7-dihydro-4H-thieno[3,2-c]pyridine-2-carboxylic acid (1H-tetrazol-5-yl) amide monohydrochloride, mp 237°-238° C.
