25 g. of 4-ethoxy-3-methylisoxazolo[5,4-b]pyridine-5-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (0.113 mol.) are dissolved in 100 ml. of benzene and after adding 8 g. of butylamine (0.23 mol.), the solution is refluxed for 12 hours. The solvent is distilled off and the residual 4-butylamino-3-methylisoxazolo[5,4-b]pyridine-5-carboxylic acid ethyl ester is recrystallized from ligroin, m.p. 60°, yield 23.5 g. (85%).
