In Step 4, inosine derivative (IV') is subjected to reduction with hydrogen (H2) in an organic solvent over a palladium catalyst. This reduction proceeds with minimum substrate decomposition. This is followed by hydrolysis or ester exchange reaction, giving 2',3'-dideoxyinosine derivative (A').
