4-Bromobenzoic acid → 4-Bromobenzoyl chloride
Reaction equation
[Br:1][C:2]1[CH:10]=[CH:9][C:5]([C:6](O)=[O:7])=[CH:4][CH:3]=1.S(Cl)([Cl:13])=O>>[Br:1][C:2]1[CH:10]=[CH:9][C:5]([C:6]([Cl:13])=[O:7])=[CH:4][CH:3]=1Participants

Procedure
1.5 g (0.00745 mol) of 4-bromobenzoic acid were dissolved in 25 ml of thionyl chloride under argon and boiled under reflux for 2 hrs. The excess thionyl chloride was distilled off and the residue was taken up twice with 50 ml of toluene and concentrated each time. 1.63 g (100%) of 4-bromobenzoyl chloride were obtained as a yellow solid.
