Boc-L-Asp(OBzl)-L-Phe-OBzl (9.91 g) was dissolved in a mixture of trifluoroacetic acid (50 ml) and dichloromethane (50 ml). The resultant solution was stored at room temperature for 2 hr. The reaction mixture was evaporated to dryness to yield a residue which was triturated with ether, collected, washed thoroughly with ether and dried under high vacuum to yield L-Asp(OBzl)-L-Phe-OBzl, trifluoroacetate salt (8.36 g) as a white solid: NMR (CDCl3) δ 2.88 (2H, m), 3.07 (2H, m), 4.33 (1H, m), 4.78 (1H, m), 5.02 (2H, s), 5.06 (2H, q), 6.20 (3H, v. br), 7.04 (2H, m), 7.26 (13H, m), 7.65 (1H, d); m/Z 461 (H+H)+.
