15.0 g (44.1 mmol) of (4-diphenylphosphinophenyl)methylphosphinic acid were admixed with 100 ml of a 3.7% strength by weight sodium hydrogen carbonate solution (44.1 mmol of NaHCO3) and stirred at room temperature until CO2 evolution had ceased. The aqueous solution was completely evaporated and dried under reduced presure. This gave 15.6 g (97% of theory) of sodium (4-diphenylphosphinophenyl)methyl-phosphinate. Solubility in water: 590 g/l.
