Procedure

Through a stirred solution of Example 52A (3.9 g, 26.8 mmol) in absolute ethanol (30 mL) was bubbled with hydrogen chloride gas for 20 min. The mixture was allowed to stand for overnight in the refrigerator. The product was precipitated with anhydrous ether and filtered to obtain 4.8 g of the title compound. MS (ESI/NH3) m/Z 192 (M+H)+.
