A mixture of 9-benzyl-8-bromopurine 13 (1.0 g, 3.4 mmol) bis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(II)chloride (0.242 g, 0.30 mmol) and ethoxyvinyl(tributyl)tin (1.49 g, 4.14 mmol) in dry DMF (50 mL) was heated under N2 at 65° C. for 48 h. DMF was distilled off under reduced pressure and the resulting residue was redissolved in EtOAc (50 mL) and filtered through a pad of celite. The EtOAc was distilled off and the residue obtained was purified by flash chromatography. Yield 0.579 g, (59.7%). 1H NMR (CDCl3): δ 1.33 (t, 3H, CH3, J=7.5 Hz), 3.99 (q, 2H, CH2, J=13.7 Hz), 4.66 (d, 1H, CH, J=3 Hz), 5.34 (d, 1H, CH, J=3 Hz), 5.48 (s, 2H, benzylic CH2), 7.30-7.38 (m, 5H, Ar—H), 9.09 (s, 1H, purine C8—H), 9.2 (s, 1H, purine C2—H). 13C NMR (CDCl3): δ 14.2, 47.3, 64.2, 91.8, 126.8, 126.8, 127.7, 128.6, 128.6, 133.1, 136.4, 148.2, 151.2, 151.9, 152.8, 153.0.
