Procedure
(4S,2R,3R,5R) 5-[2-chloro-6-(cyclopentylamino)purin-9-yl]-2-(hydroxymethyl)oxolane-3,4-diol, a compound of formula (2) as prepared in Example 1A, was suspended in hydrazine hydrate (5 mL), and the mixture was allowed to stir at room temperature for 24 hours. The hydrazine was removed under reduced pressure and the residue triturated with ether and filtered, to afford (4S,2R,3R,5R)-2-[2-hydrazino-6-(cyclopentylamino)purin-9-yl]-5-(hydroxymethyl)oxolane-3,4-diol, a compound of formula (3), as a white solid.
