Procedure
A suspension of (2-methoxy-4-nitro-phenoxy)acetic acid [FEBS Lett. (1983), 153(2), 431], (3.12 g 15.9 mmol) in dichloromethane (100 ml) was cooled down to 0° C. in an ice bath before oxalyl chloride (5.26 g, 41.7 mmol) was added. The reaction mixture was stirred for 45 minutes, giving a clear solution. The solvents were removed in vacuo to give (2-methoxy-4-nitro-phenoxy)-acetyl chloride as a pale yellow solid. (3.41 g, 100%);
