A solution of 8-(6-methoxy-[1,5]naphthyridin-4-ylethynyl)-1,4-dioxa-spiro[4.5]decan-8-ol (965 mg, 2.8 mmol) in ethanol (100 ml) was hydrogenated for 6 hours over PtO2 (200 mg) at 1 bar of hydrogen. The catalyst was filtered off and replaced by fresh catalyst and the hydrogenation was continued for a further 3 hours. The catalyst was filtered off and the solvent was concentrated. The crude product was purified by chromatography on silica gel (EtOAc).
