To a solution of 1-{4-[2-(4-Iodo-2-methoxy-pyridin-3-yl)-7-methyl-3H-benzimidazol-5-yl]-piperazin-1-yl}-ethanone (5.2 g, 10.6 mmol) in 4 M HCl in dioxane (60 mL) was added water (5 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 14 h. Concentration of the reaction mixture gave the title compound (4.02 g, 100%) which was used for the next step without purification. LCMS (M+H)+ m/z 486 (t=1.55 min.).
