Procedure
To 2.5 g of ethyl 1-(6-t-butylamino-3,5-difluoropyridin-2-yl)-6,7-difluoro-8-methyl-1,4-dihydro-4-oxoquinoline-3-carboxylate was added 10 mL of 36% hydrochloric acid, followed by heating under reflux overnight. After the reaction mixture was allowed to cool down, the resulting precipitate was collected by filtration. The precipitate was washed with ethanol and then with diethyl ether, whereby 1.7 g of the title compound was obtained as a pale yellow powder.
