Procedure

The product of Example 18 (56) (1.8 mmoles) was mixed with dioxane (25 mL) and 1N NaOH (1.8 mmoles) and the reaction was stirred at room temperature for 16 hours. 1N HCl (1.8 mmoles) was added and the water and dioxane were removed under reduced pressure. The product was extracted with 0.2 N NaOH (50 mL) and EtOAc (2×50 mL) and the recovered organic layer was dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated to yield a colorless oil.
