A solution of compound 6 (3.2 g, 9.3 mmol) and AICI3 (1.4 g, 10.2 mmol) in dichloroethane (30 mL) was heated to 60° C. for 15 minutes and additional AlCl3 (1.3 g) was added followed by an additional 15 minutes of heating at 60° C. The reaction was cooled and poured into 2 N HCl aq. The layers were separated and the organic phase was dried and concentrated to give a solid which was triturated with MeOH to give a white solid (2.1 g): Mp 116-119° C.; 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ 13.9 (s, 1H), 7.00 (d, 1H, J=8.0 Hz), 6.50-6.45 (m, 2H), 6.08 (d, 1H, J=2.4 Hz), 5.95 (d, 1H, J=2.4 Hz), 4.24 (s, 2H), 3.87 (s, 3H), 3.83 (s, 3H), 3.81 (s, 3H) 3.76 (s, 3H); MS FI 333 (M+H)+.
