3,5-Dibromo-4-methoxyphenyl acetic acid (3.239 g, 0.01 mol) was refluxed with oxalyl chloride (2.03 g, 0.016 mol) in anhydrous benzene (50 mL) for 6 h. The reaction mixture was cooled, concentrated and evaporated 3 times with benzene to give an oil which was used for further reaction.
