Procedure

To a solution of HCl (2M in dioxane, 40 ml) was added tert-butyl 7-propoxy-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline-2(1H)-carboxylate (2.2 g). The resulting mixture was stirred at RT for 4 hours. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure to afford the title compound as a solid (1.7 g, 97%). TLC—Chloroform/methanol (9/1): Rf=0.15. 1H-NMR (DMSO-d6, 400 MHz) δ 0.96 (3H, t), 1.71 (2H, m), 2.90 (2H, m), 3.32 (2H, m), 3.89 (2H, m), 4.17 (2H, s), 6.81 (2H, m), 7.10 (1H, d), 9.63 (2H, br. s).
