Procedure
A solution of ethyl 3-methyl-7-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-indole-2-carboxylate (2.2 g, 8.1 mmol) in THF (50 mL) was added to an ice cooled solution of 1M LAH in THF (16.2 mL, 16.2 mmol) and stirred overnight. The reaction was quenched with ethyl acetate and sodium hydroxide, filtered through celite and evaporated to afford the title compound (1.03 g, 57%). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3) δ 8.74 (s, 1H), 7.66 (d, J=7.9 Hz, 1H), 7.40 (d, J=7.3 Hz, 1H), 7.12 (t, J=4.7 Hz, 1H), 4.81 (s, 2H), 2.26 (s, 3H)
