Procedure

A solution of Example 136 A (6.62 g; 29 9 mmol) in dichloromethane (40 ml) is treated with m-chloroperbenzoic acid, 80% strength (7 10 g; 32 9 mmol), stirred at room temperature for 24 h and then heated to reflux for a further 2 h The reaction mixture is washed twice with satd aqueous NaHCO3 solution. The combined aqueous phases are extracted with dichloromethane and the combined dichloromethane phases are dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated in vacuo. The residue is crystallized from dichloromethane/petroleum ether.
