Procedure
(6-methoxynaphthalen-2-yl)(thiazol-5-yl)methanol (2.0 g) was dissolved in dichloromethane (30 ml). To the solution was added manganese dioxide (6.0 g), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 h. The mixture was filtered with celite and the cake was rinsed with dichloromethane. The filtrate was concentrated and the obtained residue was recrystallized from ethyl acetate to give the titled compound (1.71 g) as a pale yellow powder.
