Procedure

A mixture of 1.84 mmole 6-bromo-4-[[(3-chloro-4-methoxyphenyl)methyl]amino]-8-(acetoxymethyl)quinoline-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (i.e., Example 14) and 1.84 mmole of potassium carbonate in 20 mL of ethanol was stirred at RT for 20 hours. The mixture was concentrated, and the residue was diluted with water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The resultant organic layer was dried over MgSO4 and filtered, and the filtrate concentrated to give 0.85 g of the title compound as a tan solid. MS: 481; LC: 3.43′.
