To a solution of 4-amino-2,6-dichlorophenol (Aldrich, 5.9 g, 33 mmol) in 30 mL of THF was added 2-chloro-4-trifluoromethylbenzenesulfonyl chloride (4.19 g, 15 mmol). The mixture was stirred overnight. The reaction mixture was filtered and washed with EtOAc. The filtrate was washed with 2N HCl, twice with a brine solution, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated. The residue was purified by chromatography (20%-25% EtOAc/hexanes) to give 5.7 g (90%) of product.
