Procedure

A solution of the title compound of Example 11c (30.0 g) in glacial acetic acid (100 mL) and concentrated HCl (100 mL) was heated to 11 degrees C. for 19 hours. The solution was concentrated and trituration with diethyl ether yielded the title compound as a white solid (17.1 g, 78% for 3 steps): Anal. Calcd. for C15H15NO4S2.1.1 HCl.0.25 H2O: C, 47.16; H, 4.38; N, 3.67; Cl, 10.21. Found: C, 47.16; H, 4.27; N, 3.91; Cl, 9.95.
