Procedure

Prepared as in Intermediate 3, using 2-amino-2-methylpropanol. The product did not precipitate out, even on adding diethyl ether. The solution was passed through a SCX cartridge, to remove excess amine, then evaporated to give the title compound as a white powder (1.54 g, 96% ); NMR [(CD3)2SO] 1.25 (6H, s), 3.36 (2H, d), 5.07 (1H, t), 7.74 (1H, s), 7.78 (1H, br s), and 8.04 (1H, br s).
