6.28 g (14 mmol) of methyl 4-[({6-[(2,3-dihydrobenzofuran-5-ylmethyl)-carbamoyl]pyrimidine-4-carbonyl}amino)methyl]benzoate (see 5b) were suspended in 150 ml of tetrahydrofuran and 70 ml of water, after which 16.9 ml of a 1N aqueous solution of NaOH were added and the reaction mixture was then stirred at room temperature for 24 hours.
