Procedure
Methyl (S)-5-[1-(tert-butoxycarbonylamino)2-phenylethyl]oxazole-4-carboxylate, (Tett. Lett., 1982, 23, 235; 417 mg) was dissolved in trifluoroacetic acid (3 ml) and stood at ambient temperature for 1 hour and concentrated to give an oil. Trituration with diethyl ether gave the title compound as a white solid. (281 mg).
