Procedure
To a sample of 125 (10.02 g, 27.3 mmol) dissolved in 1,4-dioxane (150 mL) was added a solution of 2-(aminomethyl)-1-ethylpyrrolidine (4.0 mL, 27.3 mmol) in acetone (10 mL) followed by addition of NaOH (11 mL, 2.5 N, 27.3 mmol) and 27 mL of water. The reaction mixture was allowed to stir at reflux for about 2 hours. The reaction mixture was extracted 3 times with dichloromethane; the combined organic layers were washed with brine and dried over potassium carbonate. The sample was concentrated on the rotary evaporator and the resulting solid was dried overnight under vacuum. Column chromatography (silica gel, 93:6:1 dichloromethane:methanol:conc. ammonium hydroxide) yielded a light yellow solid, compound 126 (7.014 g, 56%), mp 72° C.; HPLC: Inertsil ODS-3V C18, 40:30:30 [KH2PO4 (0.01M, pH 3.2): CH3OH:CH3CN], 264 nm, Rt 8.5 min, 93.4% purity; MS (ESI): m/z 458 (M+H, 37.3), 362 (4), 250 (100), 230 (15.3), 229 (44.1).
