Procedure

To 4-(Carboxy-phenyl-methyl)-piperazine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (351) (10.7 g, 33.43 mmol) in THF (120 mL) at 0° C. was slowly added BH3—SMe2 (6.69 mL, 66.86 mmol). The reaction mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature and then stirred at room temperature for 96 h. The reaction mixture was then quenched with sat. NaHCO3 (120 mL) at 0° C. and diluted with Et2O. The organic phase was dried with MgSO4 and then concentrated to dryness. The crude material was purified by chromatography (silica gel 60 mesh, eluting with 50% EtOAc/50% hexanes); yielding 3.78 g (86%) pure product.
