Procedure

To LAH (0.08 g, 2.23 mmol) in THF (10 mL) was added N,N-Diethyl-2-piperazin-1-yl-2-o-tolyl-acetamide (548) (0.22 g, 0.74 mmol) in THF (10 mL). The reaction mixture was allowed to stir at reflux for 8 h. Reaction was allowed to cool to room temperature and was then quenched by the addition of H2O (0.08 mL), 15% NaOH (0.25 mL) and H2O (0.08 mL) again. The resulting aluminum salts were allowed to stir at room temperature for 1 h and then removed by filtration. The filtrate was concentrated to dryness yielding 0.20 g (98%) product.
