Procedure
Heat a mixture of ethyl 3-aminoindole-2-carboxylate (204 mg, 1.0 mmol) and 2-chloropyrimidine (1.2 g, 10.5 mmol) at 100° C. for 16 h. Cool the reaction and add aqueous ammonium chloride and ethyl acetate. Filter off excess 2-chloropyrimidine, separate the organic layer, dry with MgSO4, filter and concentrate to afford a crude mixture. Flash chromatograph the mixture on silica gel eluting with 25% ethyl acetate/dichloromethane to afford 50 mg of the title compound: MS 283 (M+H), TLC (silica gel, 25% ethyl acetate/dichloromethane) Rf=0.44.
