Procedure

To a solution of 0.205 g of ethylenediamine in 1 mL of methylene chloride is added dropwise a solution of 0.13 g of 7-methyl-6-isothiocyanato-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran in 2 mL of methylene chloride. The mixture is stirred at room temperature for 1 hour and evaporated to provide 6-[N'-(2-aminoethyl)thioureido]-7-methyl-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran as the crude product.
