2 g (7.02 mmoles) of 3,5-dibromo-1-methyl-4-nitropyrazole are heated in 50 ml of a 40-percent solution of methylamine in ethanol for 4 hours at boiling temperature. After cooling, 100 ml water are added to the reaction mixture, the separated product is filtered out and washed with a small amount of water (20 ml). After vacuum drying, 1.45 g (88 percent of theory) of 3-bromo-1-methyl-5-methylamino-4-nitropyrazole are obtained in the form of yellow crystals with a melting point of 185° C.
