13 ml of hydrazine hydrate were added to a suspension of 7.0 g (24 mmol) of ethyl 5-methyl-6-oxo-5,6-dihydro-4H-imidazo[1,5-a]thieno[2,3-f][1,4]diazepine-3-carboxylate in 70 ml of ethanol and the mixture was heated at reflux for 3 hours. After cooling to 0° the crystals obtained were filtered off and there were obtained 6.5 g (97%) of 5-methyl-6-oxo-5,6-dihydro-4H-imidazo[1,5-a]thieno[2,3-f][1,4]diazepine-3-carboxylic acid hydrazide as colourless needles of m.p. >260°.
