Procedure
A mixture of 20.7 g of 4-chloro-2-(3-iodophenyl)pyrimidine, 140 ml of water and 80 ml of hydrazine hydrate was heated on a steam bath to produce solution, then refluxed 1/2 hour and allowed to cool overnight. The resulting crystals were collected, washed with methanol:water (1:1) and dried, giving 4-hydrazino-2-(3-iodophenyl)pyrimidine.
