n-Butyllithium (14-17% in hexane, 1.2ml) was added to dropwise a stirred solution of aniline (0.12 ml) in dry tetrahydrofuran (3 ml) at room temperature under nitrogen atmosphere. Then, methyl 4-methyl-5-(4-pyridinyl)-thiazole-2-carboxylate (200 mg) was added to a stirred solution at room temperature under nitrogen atmosphere, and the mixture was stirred in the same condition for 1 hour. The resulting precipitates were collected by filtration, and the precipitates were washed with water, and air-dried. The precipitate was recrystallized from benzenepetroleum ether to give 4-methyl-5-(4-pyridinyl)-thiazole-2-carboxanilide (80 mg, yield 33.3%) as colorless plates.
