Procedure

A mixture of 2.3 g of trichloroethyl chloroformate, 3.0 g of potassium carbonate, 2.1 g of 3-(1-methyl-4-piperidinyl)-1H-indazole and chloroform was heated under reflux for 16 hrs. The reaction mixture was cooled, filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated to a solid in vacuo. The solid was triturated with ethyl acetate, collected, and recrystallized from ethanol to yield 3.9 g (91%) of product, mp 190°-192° C.
