0.8 g of 5-acetyl-6-amino-1,3-dimethyluracil was dissolved in DMF and 4 ml of dimethylformamide dibutylacetal was added thereto. The solution was heated for 8 hr at 80° C. and distilled under reduced pressure. After purification by silica gel column chromatography, the crude product was recrystallized from ethanol to give 0.59 g of 5-hydroxy1,3-dimethylpyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-2,4-dione (Compound 14).
