2-Chloromethyl-4-(dimethylaminomethyl)pyridine dihydrochloride (14.67 g) was added to a refluxing solution of thiourea (4.34 g) in ethanol (120 ml) and the solution refluxed for 3 hours, whereupon solid precipitated. After cooling the mixture (ice bath), the solid was filtered and recrystallised from methanolethanol to give S-(4-dimethylaminomethyl-2-pyridylmethyl)isothiourea trihydrochloride (11.88 g), m.p. 175°-9° C.
