Procedure

A mixture of 4.66 g of the product of Step B and 260 ml of N hydrochloric acid was refluxed under an inert atmosphere for 3 hours and was diluted with water. The mixture was made alkaline by sodium hydroxide addition and was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic was washed with water, dried and evaporated to dryness. The residue was triturated with ether and dried at 100° C. under reduced pressure to obtain 2.19 g of 1,3-dihydro-4-[3-[2-[2-hydroxy-3-propylamino-propoxy]-phenyl]-propyl]-2H-indol-2-one which melted at 122° C. after crystallization from isopropanol.
