1.0 g of tert.butyl 1-benzyloxycarbonyl-2-(2,3-dibromopropionyl)-hexahydro-3-pyridazinecarboxylate (2-racemates) was stirred for 1 hour at room temperature with 15 ml of trifluoroacetic acid and the mixture was then evaporated. The resulting oil was dissolved in 10 ml of ethanol and esterified using a solution of diazomethane in diethyl ether to give 0.89 g (95%) of methyl 1-benzyloxycarbonyl-2-(2,3-dibromopropionyl)-hexahydro-3-pyridazinecarboxylate (2 racemates) in the form of a white solid of melting point 132°-134° C. (from ethanol/diethyl ether).
