Procedure
3.0 g of 1,3-bis[[p-(dimethylamino)benzylidene]amino]-2-isopropylimidazolium chloride are suspended in 200 ml of saturated sodium hydrogen carbonate solution and stirred at room temperature for 18 hours. The product is filtered and washed firstly with water and then with ether. There is obtained 1,3-bis[[p-(dimethylamino)benzylidene]amino]-2-isopropylimidazolium hydrogen carbonate of melting point 124°-126° (dec.).
