To a stirred solution of 1-(2,6-dichloro-4-trifluoromethylphenyl)-3-methyl4-trimethylsilylethynylpyrazole (0.82 g) in methanol (15 ml) was added potassium carbonate (0.75 g). After 3 hours at room temperature the reaction mixture was poured into water (100 ml) and extracted with ether (50 ml, ×2). The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried and evaporated to provide the title compound as a light beige gum.
