Procedure
A solution of Example 1A (1 g) in methylene chloride (100 mL) at 0° C. was treated with AlCl3, stirred for 4 h at 0° C. and at room temperature for 18 h, poured into water (200 mL) containing 6N HCl (20 mL), stirred for 1 h and diluted with methylene chloride (100 mL). The layers were separated, and the organic layer was washed with brine and dried (MgSO4) to provide 810 mg of the title compound as an off-white solid.
