NaHB(OAc)3 (0.212 g, 1.0 mmol, 1.4 eq.) was added in three equal portions in 10 minutes to a cloudy solution of compound 19 (0.5 g, 0.713 mmol), bis(2-hydroxyethyl)amine (0.15 g, 1.43 mmol, 2.0 eq.) and acetic acid (0.04 mL, 0.71 mmol, 1.0 eq.) in dry dichloromethane (15 mL) under N2 in an ice bath. The reaction was stirred in ice bath for 30 minutes and room temperature for 40 hours to give a white suspension. The reaction was worked up and purified as above to give compound 20g (0.24 g, 42%) as a white foam.
