A mixture of 8-hydroxy-2,3-dimethylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine (1.2 g, 7.41 mmol), 2,6-dimethylbenzylchloride (1.145, 7.41 mmol), sodium iodide (0.3 g), sodium carbonate (2.0 g) and acetone (50 ml) was refluxed for 3 h. After the addition of methylene chloride the reaction mixture was filtered. The solvent was removed in vacuo. The residue was dissolved in CH2Cl2, washed with aqueous NaHCO3, dried over Na2SO4 and evaporated. The residue was chromatographed on silica, eluting with CH2Cl2—MeOH (100:5) to give 0.70 g of the desired product (from ethyl acetate-ether).
