Procedure

(5S)-2-Amino-5-[(1R)-1-(indol-3-yl)ethyl]-4-oxazolone (1.22 g) was dissolved in 40% aqueous solution of methylamine (9 ml). The vessel was stoppered and kept standing for 3 hours at 5° C. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure to make the volume to about half. The precipitated solid substance was collected by filtration and washed with water (20 ml). The solid substance was recrystallized from methanol-water to give indolmycin (0.777 g) as white crystals (yield: 60%).
